San Isidro
Just beyond Olivos, the site of the presidential residence,
is one of the most attractive suburbs on the coast and a fashionable
nightlife spot, specially along the river bank. There are a
number of fine colonial buildings including several quintas
(country-mansions). The church, built in 1895 is French neogothic
style. San Isidro is a resort of golf, yachting, swimming and
athletics but is most famous for the Hipodromo San Isidro, its
magnificent turf racecourse. |

San Antonio
de Areco
San Antonio de Areco is in the north of the Province of Buenos
Aires about 75 Miles north of Buenos Aires. It is a smaller
town with about 19,000 inhabitants. Founded in the 18th century,
there are a lot of older churches and other architecture reflecting
its colonial past. It really is an interesting town to walk
through that gives one a good feeling about Argentina's past.
It has frequent and direct train service from Buenos Aires.
There is a good selection of hotels, restaurants, and camping
areas available for the tourist. |

Colonia
- Uruguay
A Portuguese colonial gem on the east bank of the Río
de la Plata, Colonia del Sacramento is a very popular destination
for excursions from Buenos Aires. The modern town, which extends
around a bay, is charming and lively; its streets are lined
with plane trees and the whole town is kept very trim. The small
historic section is particularly interesting because there is
so little colonial architecture in this part of South America. |
